As per its name, this plant originates in Japan, where it inhabits moist environments such as forest undergrowth or along stream banks. This plant has prominent round, leathery leaves and has a compact and clumping growth habit. These unique features also get it the quirky name, "tractor seat plant."
- Appreciates higher-moderate humidity settings
- It does fine in various light conditions, from bright indirect to dappled light, but prolonged exposure to direct sun will cause the leaves to wilt/burn.
- They can tolerate periods of low light, and you may notice that the plant can develop a leggy appearance over time in a lower-light environment.
- It prefers slightly moist soil (not soggy), so allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry between waterings.
- Do not allow the soil to dry out completely, which can cause its leaves to wilt and thin.
