Gymnocalycium damsii typically forms low-growing, solitary, clustering clumps of globular stems. You can propagate from these offsets (known as "pups") that emerge from the base of the plant. Carefully remove the offset with a sterilized sharp knife and allow the cut to callus before planting in well-draining soil. Darling pink/purple flowers can also be seen, usually in summer.

  • It does best with bright, indirect light. This plant can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially in the morning or late afternoon, but avoid prolonged direct exposure to the intense midday sun during the peak summer months, as this can burn the plant.
  • Allow the soil to dry out before watering, being mindful that the plant is going to be a much heavier drinker in the summertime
  •  Reduce watering in fall and winter to mimic the plant's natural dormancy period.
