This striking houseplant combines its signature vibrant blooms with eye-catching, patterned foliage. The leaves of this Variegated Lipstick Plant have a softer texture than some other fully-green varieties of Lipstick Plant. The foliage is adorned with creamy white to pale yellow variegation that contrasts beautifully with the green base colour. The variegation often appears as irregular splashes or streaks along the edges of the leaves. A pink or purple hue can develop with increased and consistent light exposure. Like the non-variegated variety, the flowers are bright red and tubular, emerging from dark maroon calyxes. These vibrant blooms resemble lipstick emerging from its tube, providing a pop of colour against the variegated foliage.
CARE:
- Thrives with consistent bright, indirect light. A few hours of morning sun can be beneficial. Too little light may reduce flowering, while prolonged exposure to direct midday sunlight can scorch the leaves.
- Allow 1/3-1/2 of the topsoil to dry out before watering. Avoid keeping soil constantly wet, as this plant is sensitive to soggy roots.
- Moderate humidity is appreciated but this plant can adapt to household humidity.
- Avoid allowing water to pool on the leaves.
