Opuntia monacantha variegata, also known as Variegated Joseph's Coat or Variegated Prickly Pear, is a stunning and distinctive cultivar of the Opuntia species. With increased exposure to light, the plant's cream-coloured portions can develop a distinct pink hue.
CARE:
- To thrive indoors, consistent bright, indirect sunlight with a combination of direct light is best. Southern or western exposures are ideal. Rotate the plant occasionally to promote even growth and prevent leaning toward the light source.
- Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Opuntia are drought-tolerant and can withstand periods of dryness. It's best to err on the side of underwatering rather than overwatering, as too much water can quickly lead to root rot.
- Be mindful that this plant will be a much heavier drinker in the summertime, so water it accordingly. Reduce watering in fall and winter.
