Originating from Southeast Asia and the Pacific region, this epiphytic species is the underrated distant cousin of hoyas. Dischidia have evolved to thrive in tropical rainforests, where they often cling to tree branches and absorb nutrients from the air and rain. Like most epiphytic species, they develop intricate root systems that serve as anchors, allowing them to cling effortlessly to surfaces. Blooms are often petite, star-shaped, and typically white or cream.
CARE:
- Due to their epiphytic nature, these appreciate being root-bound, so you may not need to repot for several years
- Allow soil to nearly dry out (about 70percent) before watering
- When kept indoors, they do well with consistent medium-bright indirect light and benefit from a few hours of direct sun daily.
- If kept outdoors during peak summer months, dappled light is best to mitigate the risk of scorched leaves.
- Does well in moderate humidity
