Add a living work of art to your interior spaces—Spanish Moss can transform any room into a serene, nature-inspired retreat with nearly effortless care. The Tillandsia usneoides is an air plant, not actually moss. It is also commonly referred to as "Old Man’s Beard" or "Tree Hair" due to its appearance.
This air plant features a slender, thread-like appearance, giving it a ghostly, beard-like look as it drapes from tree branches in its natural habitat. Interestingly, it does not have any roots! Instead, its entire surface is covered in fine, shimmering scales—tiny trichomes that absorb moisture and nutrients directly from the air and rain.
CARE:
- Place in a spot with medium-bright indirect light (no direct sun)
- Soak in water every 7-10 days for 15 minutes, shake off excess water and dry upside-down
- Misting is also an option for but you'll have to hydrate frequently (2-3 times/week)
- Does best with moderate to high humidity, but it is adaptable to household humidity.
TIPS:
- When soaking in water, shake off excess water upon removal and hang to dry.
- Although humidity is appreciated, do not trap it in a closed jar for extended periods. Air circulation is needed, or else they will rot.
