Philodendron Micans boasts heart-shaped leaves with a velvety texture. The foliage can range from a deep green to copper with a bronzey-orange sheen. When exposed to a fair amount of light, the leaves may develop a reddish hue. This plant naturally trails or cascades, making it an excellent choice for suspended planters or draped over shelves. If provided with appropriate support, it can also climb.

Extrafloral nectar (EFN) on the micans is not uncommon. EFN does not cause any harm to the plant. This substance can cause some minor yellowing speckling, which is only cosmetic. The nectar typically appears as sticky, translucent droplets.

CARE:

  • This plant can tolerate periods of lower light but does best with consistent medium-bright indirect light.
  • Prolonged exposure to direct sun scorches the leaves.
  • Prolonged exposure to low light often results in dull foliage and scraggly vines.
  • Ensure that light reaches the crown of the plant rather than only the trailing portions; otherwise, you can end up with a balding/sparse appearance at the top.
  • This plant does best with moderate humidity.
  • Allow first 1/4-1/3 of the soil to dry before watering.
  • Avoid misting directly onto its leaves or allowing water to pool on the leaves.
