This unique-looking specimen is a carnivorous variety-more specifically a hybrid of two types of Nepenthes aka "Pitcher Plants," which gets its name due to the pitcher-shaped leaves acting as a pitfall trap to capture insects. The "Miranda" is a remarkable addition to your indoor plant collection, and relatively easy to maintain, even in the Canadian climate when cared for correctly.
CARE:
- Provide bright, indirect light for your pitcher plant. Place it in a spot where it can receive sufficient light without being exposed to extended periods of direct sunlight, especially during the hottest summer months, which can scorch its delicate leaves. A couple of hours of direct morning sun should be fine.
- Thrives in warm, humid conditions similar to their native habitat so it's best to keep away from drafty windows, heating vents, air conditioning units...etc
- Requires consistently moist but not waterlogged soil. Water them with distilled water, or rainwater Water when the top inch of soil feels slightly dry, or consider placing the plant onto a tray with water.
- When repotting, avoid heavily fertilized potting soil. Instead, opt for a mix of sphagnum moss, perlite, and orchid bark to mimic their natural growing conditions.
