Tillandsia brachycaulos

Tillandsia, more commonly known as air plants, are fascinating plants as they do not require soil to grow!  They are epiphytes, meaning they naturally grow attached to trees, rocks, and other surfaces for support without taking nutrients from them. Instead, they absorb moisture and nutrients through their leaves from the air, making them an ultra low maintenance option for indoors spaces. 

CARE: 

• Medium to bright indirect light. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
• Soak once a week for 15 minutes (every two weeks during the colder months). After soaking, gently shake off excess water and place the plant upside down until completely dry.
• Average to moderate humidity is ideal. Smaller plants can also be lightly misted between soakings if your environment is particularly dry.

Helpful Tips: 

• Always allow your Tillandsia to dry upside down after watering. Water trapped in the centre of the plant can lead to rot.
• While air plants appreciate humidity, they also need good air circulation. Avoid keeping them in sealed terrariums or closed glass containers, as stagnant air can cause the plant to rot.
